Portrait painting

I like to keep things simple, so here is my 4 step plan to recieve your very own commission.

STEP 1

Let's meet - either in person or over a video call. I'll ask lots of questions so I can fully understand what you want, and give you a ballpark figure for the commission. We can discuss how the painting will be done, from life or from reference photos

STEP 2

If you'd like a large full figure portrait, you'll recieve a concept sketch and if you're happy, you can give me the go ahead.

STEP 3

You'll recieve an invoice and pay a deposit so I can begin to create your portrait. (You can see my prices below.)

STEP 4

You'll recieve the finished painting, delivered to your door.

Prices

Prices are bespoke depending upon what you want, but this will give you an idea.

Line drawings start at £100

Oil Paintings (20x30cm) start at £300

Refer a friend: And I'll give you 10% off the price of your commission

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to some of the most common questions I get asked.

I love to use oil paints but occasionally use acrylics and Posca Pens.

I like to paint on paper and have found a wonderful Japanese paper called Awagami Washi that is both delicate and strong and works wonderfully with oil paint. I can work on other papers on request. And I also work on canvas or board.

I generally use WhatsApp but also happy to use email and phone if preferred.

I could also get your painting framed so it's delivered ready to hang. I use a local company and will charge cost plus a 15% handling fee. I can help you choose a framing solution once the painting is complete.

Painting from my studio in Brighton, I can usually paint a line drawing within 1-2 weeks.  Oil paintings will take a longer time frame, dependant on size and complexity this could be anything from 4-12 weeks.

Sometimes you need a last minuite gift. I have an express service where I can turn a small portrait around in 24 hours. These would be using acrylic paint and could be a mini portait or line drawing.  I will then ship on the fastest possible service.

If for whatever reason you are not happy with the end result (and this has never actually happened) I won't charge the final amount, although the initial 50% deposit is non refundable.

Postage and packaging is charged at cost. I am happy to ship world wide.

I pack paintings in robust packaging and use a tracked services so you can be guarenteed your painting will arrive saftley.

You will own the physical painting, but I retain the rights to use digital images for marketing, including prints. Unless we agree otherwise at the outset.

I like to share works in progress, process videos and complete portraits on platforms like Instagram. We can agree levels of anonymity at the outset.

Reference photos are for my use only and they will be stored securely. I can share copies with you but won't distribute them elsewhere.
